Recently made friction fire for the first time! Had smoke with bow drills many times before but never knew the correct native woods to use. Pate (seven finger) worked well as a drill on mahoe, but had a short lasting ember. However, mahoe on mahoe was the real deal. From ember to flame - what a feeling!

I'm in Tauranga (my home town) for 2 weeks. A friend and I are going to be spending a lot of time out enjoying nature, if anyone in the area is keen let me know. Also if you have any recommendations of good bushcraft places nearby that info would also be much appreciated.
Stay humble and never stop learning :)
