An amazing 3 weeks at the Outward Bound School

Posted on January 5, 2012 at 23:55 6 Comments

Well mid way through last year I got an opportunity through my work with the Red Cross New Zealand to go on a fully funded 3 week course at the Outward Bound School based in Anikiwa, Marlborough Sounds. (Actually only 20mins away from home)

I grabbed it with both hands, packed my bag and arrived one sunny day for what turned out to be one of the most fun and crazy times of my life.

We have some top notch members who actually practice preparedness and survivalism and know what they're talking about.

One of our guys really has a bunker he's built out in the middle of no where and posts heaps of pics just to show whats… Continue

One side was planed flat on the bench… Continue

Well we went all out for this one, using my knowledge of wood and tools, some ideas that I had and Jessie's boundless enthusiasm.

A piece of Kanuka was set up in the lathe and rounded before we marked out the measurements:

Next was just a case of cutting it down to the marks and then sanding it smooth:

Once the compartment was bored out a lid made of Rimu was screwed on… Continue
