suggestions for a paddle

I am starting a new job in a couple of weeks and have decided to take a week off in between finishing the old & starting the new.

I fancy getting the open canoe out of storage and doing a couple of day trips.
any suggestions of where to go within an hour or two of Dunedin.

would rather a lake( do you have any lochs here in NZ) rather than a river to minimise the hassle of having to hitch a ride back to collect the car if doing a river.

all suggestions and grid refrences welcome with thanks
