After watching the great Pine Resin video that Andrew uploaded, I couldn't wait to collect some. I actually found it really easy to get a handful in 5mins or so, but boy does it make a sticky mess. Best to try keep it off your skin if you can help it!
The old hardened yellow resin worked the best and burnt well. The softer stuff, often white and sugary did not seem to work so well but I am trying to dry it out. I want to make:
  1. A candle like in the video, and experiment with resin/fuel ratios and burn time
  2. Pitch by mixing melted resin with crushed charcoal
I will also keep some chunks as firestarters, some of them have pieces of bark inside them which should help in this case.

Has anyone tried doing these things? I often head out in pine forests and so would like to make the most of this resource
