Giddy may name is Rob. I grew up in Northland but now live in Marlborough. I have been a possum hunter, fisherman, mussel farmer, pig hunter, and deerstalker. I love the New Zealand bush and mountains and enjoy learning about different trees and plants and their food value and medicinal properties. In the last year I have been learning how to make wood self bows and sinew backed bows and enjoy trying out different native timbers. I believe the way of the future is to learn from the past and not forget the ancient skills and crafts.I look forward to exploring and learning from this site.Cheers.

Gidday Rob, welcome along mate, sounds like you have quite a wealth of knowledge to share.

I'm through in Picton, whereabouts are you in Marlborough?

So what wood are you using for your bows, I have a friend in Chch who is into bows and we've been struggling to come up with a suitable native timber.

Howdy te hopo I'm in havelock. So far have tried tarata (pittosporum lemonwood),kanuka, kowhai and tanekaha. I like kowhai and tanekaha but it's hard to pass to much judgement as Iam still learning the tillering process. And any errors are usualy my fault. There is a bit of tawa around the regen gullys in the sounds I haven't tried that yet but some say it's alright. Cheers.

Sweet as, I work across the other side for the Shark Nett gallery, if you've seen a guy out spraying or scrub barring over on the track around the foreshore and native plantings that's me. =)

I have heard good things on lemonwood, but using kowhai and tanekaha are new ones to me for tillering.

We found kanuka split too easily for a bow.

Ha small country I could probably see you from my house. I'll have to come over and meet ya.

Hahaha yea mate if you see me out there feel free to come and meet, my names Deano
