Hi I'm Mike I heard about Bushcraft NZ from a hunting site I frequent.I've been a keen tramper since my early teens [i'm 46 now].But over the last 9 yrs my time in the outdoors has been restricted [young family] . I've lost my fitness but not my interest and over the last 12 months I've been getting out a little more mostly on short hunting trips.

This is a great idea for a site and I look forward to learning new skills ..or maybe that should be old skills.

Nice to meet you Mike. Haha yes I guess old skills would be more fitting! Hopefully we will be able to get an outing together soon around your area we have quite a few members in Canterbury now.

As far as the family goes I think that teaching kids a thing or two about the outdoors and how to be self sufficient is a great way to build confidence, respect for nature, and stickability....fire by friction isn't easy! I'm sure you feel the same way, and hopefully this site can help with that.

Are there any areas in particular what you are especially keen to work on?
Thanks for the welcome Ryan.Yeah the kids enjoy bushwalks and camping and I hope to take them on an overnighter in Arthurs Pass this summer.
I'm looking at skills to keep me alive if things go pear shapped while out hunting/tramping and skills to stop things going pear like in the first place.Previously I've periodicaly practised skills such as shelter building ,1st aid, river crossing, navigation, fire making, tracking and snaring and run courses for my tramping club.I need to get back up to speed in these areas again, now that I'm getting out bush again.
