Hi Nathan, I think what might help you quite a bit would be to make some char cloth which is mainly cotton material cut into small squares and put into a tin with a small hole in the top and set on a fire, when smoke stops coming out of the hole in the tin take off the fire and let it cool down. when you want to make your fire get your dry tinder ready and your piece of the char cloth and strike a spark onto the char cloth and when you see a red spot on the char cloth, add some tinder and gently blow on it and it will burst into flame. Practice and you will get good at it.
