I use alcohol wipes, single wipes sealed in water proof foil, take a spark very easily and hold a flame for about 20 seconds, they are light weight and can be stuffed in the smallest pockets and gaps. the last box i bought contained 250 and usually cost around 8 - 12 cents each

My prefernce is for Vaseline cotton balls, except I use makeup pads instead. My reason for this is they have flame, Char cloth just holds a glowing ember meaning more prep required to get a fire going. But the budget brand firestarters are really good and cheap.
