Hi everyone,
I did a great gorge trip this last weekend and while doing it I figured a simple way to navigate. This is usually difficult in gorges because of the lack of good landmarks but this methods makes it really simple... so here it is... Check your map and count the number of significant left or right turns. Then while you are traveling all you need to do is to keep an eye on the big picture lie of the land and keep a count of either lefts or rights... So simple and it worked very well for me. Try it some time.
