Permalink Reply by Joe Judd on February 4, 2012 at 14:54 I got mine new from kiwidisposals, I'm getting a sheath for it off trade me. they have been around for years and have been the main issue machete for the British army since the 1950s i think. got to be good then. I sharpen mine with a bastard mill file, comes up nice and sharpens quickly.

I think that it is a good sign you can sharpen it with a file. If it wasn't easy to cut with a file, it could mean it was too hard.... thus probably too brittle for a lot of hammering and levering.

I give mine a good sharpen with a normal size file before i got bush and when i'm bush i sharpen it with the file on my multi tool, takes a bit longer but saves carrying a large file. i also carry a buck diamond sharper for my other knives, i sometimes use this on it too

Permalink Reply by John Humphris on May 2, 2012 at 15:57 My favorite knife is a NZ made Svord. The blade is so hard you have to use a daimond hone on it rather than a steel. You can skin and dress a whole deer with it before having to touch it up though. I understand they are made in Hawkes Bay. I am in the process of reshaping it as I am finding the depth of the blade at the point too thick for some dressing tasks. I have also found that I can get a shaving edge by putting the blade on a buffing wheel to finish the sharpening.
