Hi everyone,

well I recently moved here from the south coast of UK, after getting my degree in Adventure Education, and training as a Forest Schools practitioner. The philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences, mainly through outdoor play, fire lighting, shelter building, wood craft, cooking on open fire etc etc (there is a few websites below to look at if anyone is interested). I have always loved the outdoors and camping. I'm constantly learning and improving my bushcraft skills.  My aim is to get some land, set up my own forest schools centre, and incorporate some farming aspects too, aiming to get people enjoying the outdoors and practising lost skills and crafts.  My main reason for joining this site is to find like minded people locally, and maybe create opportunities for skill swaps!

I look forward to hearing about you, and reading your comments.

Sophie

Welcome Sophie.   You are doing a wonderful thing.

Best wishes from Nelson, Stephen Coote.

Hi Sophie,

When are the schools going to open in nz. I think me and my girl need some bush skills training.

cheers stevo

I'm looking to do something similar. It's great see similar mindsets.

We've gradually been building in more of this stuff into our work as an outdoor provider in the Hawkes Bay over the last couple of years. Bringing much stuff on a simple level with a New Zealand twist. Just a plea please remember not to import direct but do bring in the New Zealand culture and history to the forest schools curriculum.

Keep up the good work
