Permalink Reply by Jamie Newell on March 28, 2012 at 19:27 Thanks for all that useful info. I'm thinking of getting a Hennessy Safari Delux (the biggest model they do), but I can see I've got a bit more homework to do on the subject. One of the reasons I want to get a Hennessy Hammock is to have a compact, all-in-one system to use with a good 3-4 season sleeping bag, but it sounds like I'm going to need a warm compact underlayer of some kind too. The space blanket from Amazon sounds a good idea.

They only have them in orange. I haven't got one yet but I am planning to when I have the cash.
The only downside I can see is condensation. a few weeks back I tried a large wind shield sun reflector from super cheap auto, it worked but it was covered with condensation. I read on the Hennessey hammock website that the owner used one with polar fleece attached to the reflector to stop the condensation problem. I haven't tried it yet. i found it moved around too. I was in my 4 season sleeping bag. the next night I used my sleeping bag and my wool blanket as a under blanket. This worked great. I was inside my sleeping bag and lying on top of the blanket, I got quite hot. don't know how good it will be during winter though. plus it weighs about 2kg.
Permalink Reply by Ben Jordan on March 28, 2012 at 20:28 its an interesting one, a hammock you can sleep comfortably anywhere at anytime as all you need is two trees, the downside is staying warm and to do this you need extra blankets or what have you. Sleeping on the ground all I use is a foam underpad even in the winter, which folds flat and sits in the back of my pack completely un-noticed and almost weightless, but you need to find a good flat spot to be able to get some sleep ??
I have a Huntech fly and a Henessy Hammock, I will probably end up still using them both 50 / 50 I guess depending on the areas I go to.

Permalink Reply by Ray Saunders on May 16, 2012 at 23:13 I have a hennessy hammock which has a built in fly screen and a extra large tarp fly and an under pad and is very very good, light and small to carry and great to sleep in much better than sleeping on the ground and they are not cold when you use the under pad which you dont need in the warmer months and for those that like to sleep on their side you can sleep on an angle across the hammock. I have had mine since they first arrived in the country and as you can guess I love it.

There is supposed to be a Cabela's New Zealand Website, but I can't seem to access it.
Below is the link to the Hammock/Tent from the American Cabela's Website ...

Permalink Reply by Joe Judd on May 18, 2012 at 21:59 A few weeks back, i got the 4 season super shelter for my hennesy hammock. it works great. i'm going to get the overcover for it too and maybe the reflector pad to mess around with. I used it a fortnight ago in the Waitakeres, it was aound 11deg and i was ok. I slept in my 4 season sleeping bag wearing merino thermals. i decided to get the supershelter as i couldnt be bothered messing around any longer with makeshift insulation that might fail when i really need it. Plus it says on the instructions that you can add leaves, spare clothing etc to the undercover for extra warmth if needed. Can't wait to try it when its really cold and wet to see how it holds out.
Permalink Reply by Jamie Newell on May 19, 2012 at 9:06 Hello Joe,
Just wondering what model of Hennesy Hammock you've got (a side opening or bottom opening one). The super shelter only works with certain models doesn't it?
Cheers, J

It's a Hennessy hammock Expedition Asym Classic velco bottom entry. I'm am not too sure if it works with side entry models. The models are listed on the hennesy hammock website that the supershelter works with. I got the Super Shelter model #1.
