Try the riccarton market, they sometimes have good axe handles at one of the tool stands, there second hand but there a lot cheaper than a new 1

As I said in another thread from you, I'm gonna be down in a month and would be keen to meet, I could help you make a new handle if you want.

 

Places I would suggest would be maybe a Chainsaw store, CRT or maybe Pine, Gould & Guiness, farm type store for a new handle.
