Event Description

Hi yall. There is a get together happening in the Waikato for Navigation Practice. I am out of practice and looking forward to re-skilling. Anyone from any area should come regardless of experience and we can teach ourselves if need be.

This would be a great time to meet up with others on this site, get in some outdoors time and experience, test out some of our kit (and our fire making skills for a hot brew during the breaks). Dates are not yet confirmed so can be adjusted for the group.

We are considering a day or two between 27th Dec and 7th Jan.  I can provide a map for any area we go into, that the group can share.

Please sign in, like and respond with your ideas.

Thanks everyone. Dave

Hi Guys. I have a date for the Navigation Practice And Day Outdoors. Big apologies for the very late response. I have been caught up with a lot of holiday stuff and have not been on top of getting the date to you.

DAY Friday 5th Jan 2018. An alternative day can be Saturday 6th Jan 2018. Please let me know which works for you.

TIME 10am

LOCATION The Rock Quarry, Old Mountain Road, Waitetuna. Take Te Pahu Road, turn onto Old Mountain Road. Quarry is just past Karamu Valley Lodge on the right hand side.

GOAL To practice and become confident in identifying our location on a map, and to plot a safe route to and from that location, using a map and compass.

DETAILS The Quarry will be our first location to get familiar with finding our position using easily identifiable features, shooting bearings, map and compass familiarisation.

From there we will move further up Old Mountain Road (metal road, good condition) to the Karamu Walkway. There we can practice what we have just learned, in more challenging navigation terrain.

The walks are short and not physically demanding, as we are there for navigation practice not fitness. Please bring your own food and water and rain wear (just in case)

Please let me know if you have any questions and to confirm you are coming.

Thanks everyone. See you there. Dave
